Red Delicious |
Red Delicious might fit the bill as 'Old
Reliable!' This apple is cone like in its shape, and sports
five trademark bumps on its bottom. This crisp fleshed apple
was the result of a happy accident, when a seed sprouted in an
Iowa Orchard in 1880. Most recently it has astonished
scientists as it ranks #1 for the apple with the most disease
fighting antioxidants in its skin, and #3 for the apple with the
most antioxidants in its flesh!

Granny Smith |
Granny Marie Ana Smith got more than she
bargained for when she tossed a mess of French Crabapples out
her back door! Known for its zesty flavor and its keeping
qualities, it is an excellent choice for baking. However, sour
apple fans might argue that this apple is best served up fresh
and perhaps topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and
caramel. |
